Annual CC FangDango ushers in Fiesta

Mr. Cassler, Adviser

This year’s Central Catholic “FangDango” was held on June 19 at Bob Benson Stadium, and according to Interim President and Director of Advancement, Jason Longoria, ’96, getting the event put together was challenging, but should net some good fundraising results.
Last summer the event was cancelled due to the pandemic, and though COVID protocols were a concern again this year, the committee decided to press forward and stage the FangDango. Longoria had this to say: “This year’s event was such a challenge due to COVID restrictions changing quickly each week. It was difficult to plan the event in the early stages (Fall 2020) because restrictions in place at that time made the committee consider not having the event. However, the committee, led by Priscilla Gonzaba, persevered in their desire to not skip another year for this new event.”
A small army of sponsors, patrons, vendors, and student and parents volunteers help to organize the FangDango, and make sure that everything goes as planned on event night. From the Wild Game Dinner Grillers, who kept all the food coming, to the Parents of Alumni who created a variety of goodie baskets, to the Cheer Team volunteers, and the students that constantly ran back and forth from the grills to the food booths, the event proved to be an enjoyable way for the Central catholic community to usher in the Fiesta season.
As the sun was setting, some welcome cloud cover came in and out, and some nice summer breezes prevailed as well. Music was provided early in the evening by Vegas Event Group’s DJ, then followed later by the local cover band, “Finding Friday”. The evening culminated in a visit by El Rey Feo, Thomas R. Aguillon, ’72, who showed up with his court to present an award to Jason Longoria.
The FangDango was first held in 2019, and the event raised over $35,000 in funds for student scholarships, academic programs, and building improvements. Longoria added that this year is looking great as well. “The numbers are still coming in, and we should know a final count in the coming weeks.” Artwork for the fangDango was created and designed by Robert Cordova, ’83.
