CC Golf Team captures fifth 1st Place finish of season

Mr. Cassler, Adviser

Central Catholic Golf captured their fifth 1st Place win of their season this year by coming out on top of a field of over twenty area high school teams at The Dominion Country Club golf course on Monday, January 28th.

Led by Coach Barney Smith, these talented golfers started their season back in September during the Fall semester, and to date, they have earned three 2nd place finishes, a 6th place finish, and with this win, a total of five 1st place finishes in tournament play.

The Dominion tournament victory was a testimony to the strengths of a handful of up and coming young CC golfers. The team of five on Monday consisted of two freshmen, Santiago Rodriguez and David Vargas, two sophomores, Patrick Kahanek and Evan Immenschuh, and one junior, Gaston Prieto.

According to Coach Smith, when he started coaching these young players, only 2 or 3 of them were breaking 90. Through their hard work and commitment, everyone on the team now is consistently shooting rounds of golf under 90.

The Dominion win was also accomplished with 2 seniors missing, which is quite remarkable, according to Coach Smith. He also had this to say: “My goal has been to build a program that good players want to come Central because of the winning program and opportunity to play in college.”
