With the growing number of members in the journalism program, there’s bound to be some discussion in terms of a new ongoing article series. With that being said, The Pep is proud to introduce the Pep Music Board into our growing number of news divisions. The whole idea behind the PMB is to introduce new music to students at Central, release reviews for newly released albums/projects, and hold polls based on whatever’s happening in the world of music. We have many other ideas to accompany this new division within the journalism program planned for the future. A small sneak peek is our idea for students to vote for their favorite albums/releases of the year sometime in December. In addition, we will be writing monthly articles on the music we have been listening to for the month as a whole; adding each song we list into a playlist that we will publicly share and consistently update until the end of the school year.

We would now like to introduce our staff with some short bios that we all put together representing our varied music tastes.

Hello! My name is Jude Raba and I’m a Junior. My favorite artist right now is Machine Girl and my favorite genres currently are probably drum and bass, jungle, and psychedelic rock. My favorite albums right now are bury me at makeout creek by Mitski, my favorite songs being “Carry Me Out” and “Last Words of a Shooting Star”; and Sketches of Brunswick East by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard, my favorite songs being “The Spider and Me” and “Rolling Stoned”. I hope to share a different style of music than my collaborators throughout the next few months.

Hey, my name is Noah Flores and I’m a Junior. My favorite artist of all time is Kanye West and my favorite genre is Hip-Hop. Three of my favorite albums I’ve been listening to recently are Red Burns by Standing on the Corner, Frank by Amy Winehouse, and Blonde by Frank Ocean. My favorite songs from each album respectively are “MIKE Sees The Storm”, “(There Is) No Greater Love, and “Seigfried”. With my favorite music usually including an emphasis on production and composition, I hope to provide a more musically-focused perspective on what I share.

Hi, my name is Dallas Huerta and I’m a Junior. My favorite artist right now is Frank Ocean And my favorite Genre is Hip-Hop. My top three albums are Channel Orange by Frank Ocean,  Doris by Earl Sweatshirt, and Long Live A$AP by A$AP Rocky. My favorite songs from each album are “Crack Rock”, “20 Wave Caps”, and “Sandman”. My favorite sounds are 808s and hi-hats. I hope to provide a deeper look into the background of artists and their lives.

My name is Leo, and I’m a Senior. My favorite bands/artists at the moment are Oasis, The Stone Roses, Jimi Hendrix, Eyedress, The Doors, and Sublime. My favorite genre at the moment is all of them, I don’t limit myself to one sound. My top 5 albums of all time are The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd, You’re Living All Over Me by Dinosaur Jr, Siamese Dream by Smashing Pumpkins, Illmatic by Nas, and Enter the Wu-Tang by Wu-Tang Clan. I hope to change people’s perspective on music and show them that music is more than just a collection of sounds; it’s art.

You know me well, I am The Junior (and also a Junior). My taste in music is universally beloved. If you don’t know me and love me now, you will soon.

The Pep Music Board hopes to help cultivate a growing culture for the appreciation of music here at Central Catholic. Please look forward to reading our upcoming articles!
