CCHS Community celebrates first mass of new school year

Mr. Cassler, Adviser

The Central Catholic community, including students, faculty, staff, and family members, celebrated the first mass of the new school year on Wednesday, August 15, in the CCHS gymnasium.

Presiding over the mass was Fr. Oscar Vasquez, who is the Provincial of the Province of the United States. The mass honored The Solemnity of the  Assumption of Mary, which is a celebration of the bodily taking up, or ascension, of the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven at the end of her earthly life. It is also important in the Society of Mary because many Marianist brothers profess vows on this day.

Fr. Vasquez attended Central Catholic, and after completing his college bachelor’s degree, had his first assignment here at Central. In his bio on the Marianist website, Fr. Vasquez shares this:  I’m
truly thankful to the Marianists and lay faculty at Central Catholic for helping me learn
how to be a teacher and how to have a passion for the education of the young.”
