JV Soccer moves to 4-0-0 record with solid win over TMI

Central’s JV Soccer team has surged their way into a new season with impressive wins in two games last week against St. Mary’s Hall and TMI, earning themselves a solid and blemish free 4-0-0 record thus far into the season.

JV Soccer 2-1 win at St. Mary’s Hall:

Against St. Mary’s Hall, the team dominated possession in the first half, winning an astonishing 11 corner kicks, and scoring on 2 well-executed plays off those corner kicks.  Later in the second half the opponent made a push to try to get back in the game, but our boys showed some excellent movement of the ball and rallied and rallied to on to a 2-1 victory on the road against the Barons of St. Mary’s Hall.
According to Coach Cartee, “We passed the ball quite well for a majority of the game, and I was pleased by that, though we should’ve created more chances on attack.  I was also pleased that our defense is beginning to show improvement in areas we’ve focused on after our first games two weeks ago.  The boys are showing a really good understanding of our program’s system and style of play, and now we need to be sharper in our execution of the details.” Coach Gomez also commented on the victory, adding that he was impressed by the “…tenacity that the boys exhibited in play against an obviously more physically mature opponent.”
JV Soccer 5-0 win at TMI Episcopal School:
The boys had a very strong performance against the Panthers of TMI, highlighted by an impressive attacking offense.  Numerous chances for shots on goal were created by excellent penetrating passes, and the team did a much better job of finishing, while also covering each other defensively. These two key elements of play allowed the boys to hold on to the shutout.  “I’m pleased with how today’s performance built on Thursday’s win at SMH, and it’s good that we increased our margin of victory from our first game against TMI earlier in the season,” said Coach Cartee. Coach Gomez added to this observation, saying,  “The students diligently applied the information which was given following Thursday’s game at St. Mary’s Hall and during yesterday’s training session.”
Additionally, the strong 5-0 shutout performance at TMI was earned and won by a solid and consistent squad that was missing five of its starting players, who were competing with their respective club teams at showcase tournaments across the state.  Kudos and credit to the remaining starters and reserves that showed up in full force against TMI, and for rising to the challenge and persevering to keep a clean sheet and bring the current JV record to 4-0-0.
