Eighth Graders Tour Potential New Home at Central

Paul Witt and Geoffrey Mendoza

On October 5, 2016, local middle schools toured their potential new home at our beloved Central Catholic High School.  They had experienced tour guides who led them through Central’s halls and showed them what a typical day looked like.  In the gym, the prospective students went to a clubs and organizations fair, showcasing some of Central’s well known extracurriculars.  They also saw a chemistry lab in action in Mr. Shideler’s room, Mr. Bendele’s famous 13 year old ball python, and they got to experience the band’s instruments in some hands on time in the Bob Benson ’66 Stadium.  When they walked out to the Quad, they were met with the Chaminade Guard Drill Team.  The Drill Team is one of Central’s most known organizations because they are nationally recognized for their discipline and skill.  Some of the other organizations that were on display were the Pep, the Fang, the Guitar Club, the Sports and Outdoors club, the Chess Club, the Spanish Club, and the Latin Club.

Most of all however, the middle schoolers received a look at Catholic and religious life here at Central. All students explored the sacred Marianist chapel and saw a glimpse of how mass is preformed at Central.   They also learned all about Central’s religious offerings and Tecaboca.   The middle schoolers all time favorite activity was the Mighty Button Band exhibition out on the field. It brought out their inner Button and foreshadowed a loud and proud Section R. This was closely followed by the Bordelon Rifle team and The Iron Fang exhibits.  Most eighth graders that were interviewed said that this sealed the deal, and that they now plan on coming to Central.  They had a lot of fun today, and hopefully they get to walk through the halls of Central on the first day of school next year.  Welcome future Class of 2021!
