This weekend, Central Catholic JROTC’s Orienteering Team (Ranger Platoon) competed at St. Edward’s Park in Austin, Texas. 6 cadets competed, four of which were new members, with about 200 other racers that come from other JROTC programs and orienteering clubs across the state.
Throughout the race, all of our cadets had to run through thick undergrowth, cross Bull Creek which goes through the park, scale up and down hills and cliffs, and navigate themselves with only a map and a compass to find points all across the park. Newcomer Freshman Daniel Gonzalez placed 13th in the 14-15 age group and 18th overall in the Beginner 1 course.
Newcomer Sophomore Cody Miller placed 3rd in the 14-15 age group and 3rd overall in the Beginner 1 course. Returner Sophomore Kurt Grabow, Executive Officer,  placed 1st in the 14-15 age group and 8th overall in the Intermediate course. Last, I (Returner Junior Daniel Guerra, Commander) placed 1st in the 16-18 age group and 1st overall in the Intermediate course. Attached are some photos from the competition itself.
