The varsity Button football team ended a drought of losses against the Antonian Apaches on Friday night by delivering a 29 – 7 loss to the long time rivals.

On October 16, the Buttons squared off against the Apaches for the 43rd time. The game started out slow as the game went into the second quarter 0-0. After a 99 yard drive in the middle of the second quarter, the Buttons took a 7 point lead.

On the ensuing kick off, Senior Tavian Wilson launched an onside kick to an unsuspecting Antonian player, and the Buttons were able to recover. The home side was able to score another touchdown, scored by Junior Thomas Palomera. The Buttons went in to halftime up 13-0.

In the second half the Apaches were not able to get into the game. They did trim the Central Catholic lead to 6 as the fourth quarter started, but a Buttons field goal and rushing touchdowns by Jimmy Morton and Caleb Salinas but the game out of reach.

The Buttons won the game 29-7, and improved their overall record to 5-2. The Antonian Apaches are now 3-4, and will have a tough time making the playoffs.
