SCREEN-JUMPER MOVIE REVIEW: Tick, Tick…BOOM

Hector Nerio IV, Contributor

I watched this movie a second time to write this review and it was as amazing as it was the first time watching it. This film stars Andrew Garfield as Rent playwright Jonathan Larson, and he did a phenomenal job portraying him. From how he looked to his body movements, he definitely understood the assignment. This was also Lin-Manuel Miranda’s first directorial debut and he did an amazing job, the camera angles looked great and the transitions from one scene to the next were so smooth, it is hard to believe this was his first time directing.

Tick, Tick…BOOM is based on an autobiographical musical (with the same name) by playwright Jonathan Larson. Before Larson wrote Rent, he was waiting tables at the Moondance Diner struggling to become an aspiring composer/Playwright. He is navigating through his relationships while overcoming obstacles to get his musical out while constantly wondering if he made the right career choice.

FUN FACT:

The  Moondance Diner in Tick, Tick…BOOM that stars Andrew Garfield also made an appearance in Spider-Man(2002) with Mary Jane working there.
