Guardian Angels give time and service at Saddle Light Center
March 5, 2017
On March 4, 16 Central Catholic students spent the morning repairing three wheel chair ramps at the Saddle Light Center off of Evans Road near Retama Park.
The Saddle Light Center is a nonprofit organization that provides equestrian (horse) therapy for children with a variety of disabilities – some physical and some behavioral. Examples include cerebral palsy, autism, and Down’s syndrome. Many of the children that come to the Saddle Light Center are in wheelchairs. So, by working on the wheelchair ramps, our Central boys made it easier for these children to get on the horses for therapy.
Many of our students are aware of the disabilities that these children are affected by. However, spending a day at the Saddle Light Center made the connection more tangible. Moreover, this was also the first time that many of these boys had ever worked with horses.
