Academic Team reps at Somerset High School competition

The Academic Team competed at the Somerset Spring Fling on Saturday, March 4 against over 18 South Texas schools. Our Buttons did extremely well!
In Literary Criticism, senior Jack Betancourt took 1st place for the second week in a row!
Junior Felix Gonzalez won 7th place in Ready Writing.
Freshman and novice speaker, Demitri Garcia took 6th place in Extemporaneous Informative Speaking amongst a field of veteran upperclassmen.
In Number Sense 9-10, sophomore Josh Uviedo earned 2nd place.
In Mathematics 9-10, Josh Uviedo also earned 2nd place; in Mathematics 11-12, senior Matthew Garcia earned 2nd place. The Mathematics competitors together brought home the 1 st place small school team trophy! The math team consisted of: freshman, Frank DeLuna; senior, Matthew Garcia; freshman, Michael Garcia; sophomore, Noah Longoria; and sophomore Josh Uviedo.
Nathaniel Van Ness took first place in 9-10 Science.
Jesse Solis took 7th place in Social Studies.
In Current Events, Jesse Solis earned 3rd place and Nathaniel Van Ness won 1st !
The Current Events team which consisted of senior, Chirag Patel; senior, Jesse Solis; sophomore, Nathaniel Van Ness; and senior, Matthew Vargas, brought home the First Place Team trophy.
This was the last preparatory competition for the academic team before the TAPPS State Academic Competition, April 3-5 in Waco.
