Mid-season Recap
April 6, 2022
The Central Catholic Varsity baseball team started off their preseason with an unofficial win against Macarthur High School and rolled through all of their opponents from then on. Their home opener was against the South San Bobcats and the Buttons came out with a boom of a victory with the score being 12-1. The Buttons then entered the Northside tournament with very tough opponents as well. They played long hard-fought games and came out of the tournament with a record of 2-0 with two of those games being canceled due to weather. The following week the Buttons traveled east to compete in the Corpus Christi tournament. Great competition was out there when the first game came around. The team’s bats were loud, run-ruling them in the 5th inning, but traveling caught up to the Buttons and they fell short the following game. Overall it was a good outing for the Buttons and they finished the tournament with a 4-2 record. From then on the Varsity baseball team has been rolling and has been outsourcing opponents and would come to midseason with a record of 13-4.
Where do they see themselves in the coming weeks as they come into district play?
“I see the team as a whole competing against whoever we come into play with. We have tough games coming up this week with Canyon Lake, Bourne, and Eagle Pass which we are confident about competing with those teams. We then have another three games the following week and are hoping to roll through those teams. Now finally we come to district and this year we are gonna go 9-0 against Antonian, Savio, and San Antonio Christian. No doubt we will roll through those teams and head into the playoffs.” (Cinco Medina, Varsity Second Baseman)
How are the playoffs looking? “ When that time comes, come and interview me again but for right now we are gonna focus on the now and not get ahead of ourselves.” – Cinco Medina (Varsity Second Baseman)
