The clock was ticking on the Central Catholic community, as the amount of money raised from the truck raffle tickets did not amount to the desired goal. If the halfway mark of $48,000 was reached by Friday, September 23, the school would receive Wednesday, the 23rd of November off from school. The day prior to the deadline, every ear was turned as Mr. Ybarra rang out over the intercom about the standings of the raffle collection. The Central Catholic Community was still over $5,000 short. However, Central was not done fighting for their beloved day off.

The Friday of the deadline, raffle tickets were collected during the first period classes across campus, hoping to reach the goal. However, during fifth period, Mr. Ybarra announced over the intercom that we were still shy of the goal. He advised that we get in touch with our parents and hope that they can sell some tickets by the end of the day. This announcement would ring through the Central Catholic Buttons as a wake-up call. Central Catholic faculty member Ms. Margie Rodriguez would take this announcement to heart and start a donation drive by going from classroom to classroom in support for the extra day of vacation. Her actions rang throughout the school as an act of heroism, one that would help to save the Thanksgiving vacation.

As the clock reached 3:27 P.M. Mr. Ybarra’s voice came over the intercom once again. He announced that the raffle funds had received a significant during the day, a large contribution being, in fact, from Margie’s donation drive. Through her act of selflessness and determination, Central Catholic was able to receive their desired day off.

Of all people, Central knows who she is… Who Central needs her to be. She’s Wonder Woman, and when Central needed a hero, that’s what she became! Now the student body will live to sleep in for one more day. Our hero has saved the Thanksgiving Break.
