This faculty and staff should be proud to know that you are doing an incredible job with our Central Catholic students.

At the state meet we had several students who placed and earned points for CC in the overall standings.
Here are our winners:
Vincent Vasquez, junior, placed 8th in a very comprehensive social studies test. (Thomas Vargas and Jesse Solis were “in the hunt” as they were just a few points behind.)
Adam Trevino, junior, is the 3rd best speller in the state.  (He actually tied for  2nd, but he lost in the tie breaker.)
It’s all about speed and mental calculation in number sense, and Daniel Guerra placed 3rd.
In another contest of speed and knowledge of calculator applications, Daniel Guerra placed 7th, and junior Tristan Aguirre placed 3rd!  Tristan’s secret to having nimble fingers is playing video games.

Our star of the competition is Daniel Guerra, who was crowned the number one mathematician in this 5A competition!
Because of these young men, the Central Catholic team earned bragging rights over all of the other San Antonio area 5A  parochial schoools.
In order to earn placement in the 5A ranking, the school’s team has to earn points.  There were over 30 schools in the 5A competition.  Central Catholic came in 8th place.  This may not sound exciting, but it is indeed a triumph.
We earned all of our points solely in the academic competitions, while the other San Antonio schools earned their points in both the speech and academic competitions.  Well, to tell the truth, except for Incarnate Word, all of the other schools’ points came from speech competition.
Central Catholic students took 29 tests and earned 31 points.
Antonian students took 43 tests and earned 24 points.
Incarnate Word students took 40 tests and earned 14.95 points.
St. Anthony students took 45 tests and earned 2 points.
The Academic team returned so excited and ready to go back next year with a desire to add winning speech events to their repertoire.  (If anyone wants to help, let me know.)
A special “thank you” to Mr. Rivard who stepped in at the last minute and was a tremendous help in chaperoning the boys.
More importantly, a resounding “thank you” goes out to all of you for your support and daily efforts in providing our students with the best education possible. This academic team is just continuing the tradition that had already been set.  I have boxes of records that Mr. Steers, Ms. Delire, Ms. Tobias, and others that I don’t know, left behind, so I know that this winning team is not unique.
I just wanted to share with you that after attending this meet for the first time, it is obvious that Central Catholic is the “best” parochial high school in the San Antonio metropolitan area and 8th best in the state.  We have the scores to prove it!
